Additional Information and Interests

• Comprehensive (and practised) troubleshooting skills using, and knowledge of, MacOS based computer systems. Extensive applied experience in the Linux operating system. No skills, but a watchful interest in the BeOS or OpenBeOS. QNX is next on my agenda.

  Respected as the authoritative computer guru amongst family and friends. ;-) Whether this is a good thing or not, is a whole other story...

  Still currently exploring the Dvorak keyboard layout and migratable sockets for cluster computing.

• 1997 - Established a heterogeneous TCP/IP-based home computer network between Linux, Windows and MacOS -based computers. Incorporated various services on to this network, including DHCP, firewall (ipchains / iptables), transparent proxy, NAT / IP Masquerading, Netatalk (AppleTalk/IP), web (Apache / AOLserver), mail (qmail / Sendmail / Postfix, Cyrus IMAPD, UW imapd), Samba (SMB/NetBIOS/IP), FTP (ProFTPD, vsftpd) and SSH (openssh).

• An experimental interest in Human Computer Interaction (HCI) using the Internet and Macromedia Flash. 2005 - Back in 2000, what did I say? Flash-based Web applications? But now it is XML-RPC and Javascript = AJAX, scaffolding and CRUD - which are all cool too.

  Self-trained in the NATO phonetic alphabet (thanks Peter M). Morse code is next, and maybe a Sign Language flavour.

  1999 - Would like to see the 802.11 standards become more popular, and mobile phones become less popular. ;-) 2003 - WiFi is in, mobile phones are (still) in too.

• Designed the front cover of the high school year book (1995 / 1996) using Adobe Photoshop. Photographer for the high school year book (1994 - 1996).
